My medium is textiles. I use a variety of methods to manipulate the surface of cloth, with paint, dye, hand and machine stitching, quilting, photo transfer and occasionally words. These materials allow me to play at the borders of abstract and representational art. Working from the reference point of attraction to color, an image or shape, I keep journals of written feelings, recorded dreams, sketches and ideas for my visual pieces. Much like a writer, I like to coin a phrase, collect names, and titles of things. These may or may not seem funny to anyone else, but what evokes a big belly laugh from me, obviously has juice, or mojo. These are the usual inspirations, and what continues on from there is never quite fully known until it arrives on the studio wall as a completed piece.
