Abstract Landscapes
Taking up the brush and pallet knife, I cover and uncover layers of both raw and painted surface, in some instances, puncturing the raw canvas to add stitches, then cutting and gluing additional pieces of canvas to build the surface. Shown here: an excavation in process. By dividing the canvas in thirds, I give myself a ground level, “bugs eye view” of organic matter, then elevate the whole towards sea or sky revealing a parallel universe. Thick layers of paint build the surface in Serpent's Tail, Light Workers and Shadow Walker's while Saturated, Stained and Stitched in contrast use thin washes of color to communicate a fragile earth.
